Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is used in a wide variety of commercial applications, from supermarket shopping trolleys for the analysis of shopper movements and behaviours to cattle ranching, keeping tabs on cattle movements to domestic use as microchips, implanted into your pet to enable identification and safe return if they get lost. In the case of ecological monitoring, we use the technology to identify individual fish or other animals we might track, in order to understand their movements and so help unravel the population dynamics of a particular group of fishes or animals within a given system.
We supply PIT tags from stock for immediate dispatch or supply direct for larger quantities. We hold supplies of most sizes to enable you to fine tune your project from the very beginning and no waiting around for tags!
Fishtrack build RFID systems utilising Passive Induction Technology (PIT) tags from reputable manufacturers that have a proven track record in this field, and with whom we have developed strong working relationships. These systems have several advantages over other technologies. They are relatively inexpensive and use tags which are exceptional value. This approach enables large studies to be carried out on smaller budgets. Additionally, since the tags are inert for most of the time, the studies are not time limited. Such systems are very effective at monitoring fish passage, fish pass efficiency, population studies etc. Our Technical Section usually builds to order, so bespoke requests are seldom an issue. We have developed several integrated modules for fitment to fish passes with a variety of options.
For projects requiring urgent start-up we usually hold a minimum of 2-4 complete sets of RFID tracking/monitoring modules in stock for immediate deployment, so you can begin collecting data within hours not weeks! All of our monitoring equipment can be configured to run with various solar modules and charge controllers. We hold our most frequently requested models in stock for immediate supply and deployment. We can even offer a fully bespoke build service on-site at the location of your project monitoring, taking the hassle and worry out of this important aspect of data collection.
Our relationship with the leaders in the field of RFID, both in Europe and North America, means we can source almost any RFID item or resolve issues surrounding tracking problems with PIT equipment. We are the sole UK installer of Oregon RFID equipment and also of leading UK RFID manufacturers. This enables us to obtain custom builds to specific requirements.
We insert pit tags into animals as small as 100mm in length to fish >1000mm! PIT tags are sometimes used in conjunction with other tagging methods to provide multi-method approach to monitoring, exploiting the benefits of several technologies.
